Baadshaho (2017) teaser

In this action thriller based in the Emergency Period between June 1975 and March 1977, we see the government go up against a rebel group of six. During this period of 21 months, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi gave the head of state responsibilities to the Indian President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed. During this time, Gandhi had her opposition arrested amongst other crimes that were conducted under her supervision.

So I get the feeling that it’s kinda like one of those heist movies where there are a group of outlaws go up against the law, but with the Indian twist. Set behind a large national cause, with a whole lot of unrealistic fight scenes.

So the six that make up with rebel group, because there is no way I will refer to them as ‘Badasses’, are: Ajay Devgn, Emraan Hashmi, Vidyut Jammwal, Esha Gupta, Ileana D’Cruz, and Sanjay Mishra.

Devgn being the lead in the film already has me put off. He is met to be the muscle in the group, which doesn’t bode well from previous movies like Singham Returns (2014). Ileana D’Cruz (Rustom) I’m not sure about, but she reminds me of Cristin Milioti in this trailer. I actually like Emraan Hashmi movies, though I don’t think he’ll get much screen time as lead in this movie. Esha Gupta (Rustom, Commando 2) doesn’t look comfortable handling her gun. Sanjay Mishra just seems to be in there for comic relief, but it’s not worth his energy. And Vidyut Jammwal (Commando 2) was probably the cheap option.

I don’t make much of the movie, as it’s just another one for Devgn to release and make some money off of.

Baadshaho releases in Australia on Friday the 1st of September, 2017.
